Robyn Birkedal

My name is Robyn Birkedal and I am currently a sophomore at Johnson & Wales University majoring in Restaurant and Hotel Management.

I am from Anchorage, Alaska otherwise referred to as the Last Frontier! For all of you who may be wondering; no I did not live in an igloo. Growing up in Alaska has made me who I am today.  For example, I love spending time outdoors, embarking on new adventures and traveling.  My friends refer to me as "the girl who will try it first, and travel far and wide."

In high school, I was heavily involved with Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).  Through this program, I developed life long friends, leadership skills and my passion for service to the community.  I served as an FCCLA Alaska State Officer for three consecutive years and have continued my involvement through National Student Organization’s Community Action Association (CAA) here at J&W.   As a member of CAA, I traveled to Morocco where I was part of a team of students who utilized an innovative three-dimensional technology to promote travel and tourism.

I also started a club at J&W with some friends called Outdoor Adventure Club.  This club is devoted to helping students discover the great outdoors and enjoy some adventures such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

In the future, I would like to return to my roots in the West and begin work as a manager for a hotel or foodservice operation.  My ultimate career goal is to own my own restaurant empire!
