Important Info: DECA Regional Conference

Happy New Year, NSO students!

I bet your New Year’s resolution was to get more involved in National Student Organizations (NSO).

Am I right?

Here’s what I told myself I would do:
  • Compete in more CTSO conferences
  • Practice my presentation skills so I succeed when I compete
  • Attend more NSO social events and make friends

Does this sound like you?

Luckily, NSO has the perfect set of events coming up for you.

If you’ve ever competed in DECA, we have an amazing regional conference coming up.

Mark your calendar for Feb. 2 (snow date—Feb. 16).

For those who don’t know, DECA is a business career and technical organization (CTSO) that educates students in finance, marketing, hospitality, and entrepreneurship.

Their competition can break down in a couple of ways:
  •         Role-play and Test (Individual and Team)
  •          Prepared Presentation (Individual and Team)

Haven’t done this before? Does this all sound confusing?

The first thing you need to do is fill out the attached sign-up form and hand it to Tom Gauthier.

Then, pay the $5 registration fee on www.jwunso.afford.com.

The deadline is Jan. 22. His office is on the 5th Floor of the building above the Downcity bookstore.

Okay, I’m signed up.

But, I still have no clue what to expect!

We’ve got you covered. We’re taking the initiative to make sure you are confident and poised before you compete.

Below are the dates of our practice sessions. All participants are strongly urged to attend 2 of these practice sessions.
  •          Jan. 17 6:00-7:00 pm Xavier 402
  •         Jan. 19 4:30-5:30 pm Pepsi Forum
  •          Jan. 24 6:00-7:00 pm Xavier 402
  •         Jan. 26 12:00-1:00 pm Xavier 402

Interested in competing but don’t know who to compete with or what to compete in?

Before the practice session on Jan. 19, we have a Find Your Competitive Partner Social.

From 3:30-4:30 pm you can show up and talk to experienced members on what the competition will look like and meet other people like yourself who want to compete as well.

Time to make some friends!

We also don’t want you to be stressed out about the competition. It never works out well.

We’ve taken the liberty of planning a de-stress event just for you. It’s on Jan. 31 from 4:00-6:00 pm in John Hazen White 307.

Have any questions? Don’t hesitate to ask us. We love hearing from interested members.
